Make your own mobile movies and podcasts

We’ve had a fantastic time this past month training community journalists with Sheffield’s Burngreave Messenger.

The Messenger is an independent community based newspaper delivered free to over 9000 households in the Burngreave ward of Sheffield – one of the most diverse, multi-cultural communities you could ever come across. One of the main aims of the newspaper is to enable Burngreave residents to identify and address problems in their community.

Starting with a podcasting training day we progressed to mobile movie-making, in the process gathering some truly wonderful stories and images.

Joining us to deliver the workshops were journalist Jannah Robinson, film-maker, Raj Madaan  and writer Bill Allerton, who runs the popular Sheffield podcasting channel, Urban Tiger Radio

The community journalists we trained described the workshops as ‘highly creative,’  ‘transformative’ and ‘exhilarating:’

Listen to Urban Tiger Radio’s podcast of our day for The Burngreave Messenger and enjoy some of the fabulous photos taken by The Messenger.

Our next mobile movie-making and podcasting training workshops run in June, July and August  – and we’d love to see you there! We also create bespoke short courses for small businesses and charities. Get in touch if you’d like more details: angelarobson@pearlworks.co.uk
